What is the science behind having a crush

When you're very curious about a topic, that curiosity affects the chemistry of your brain.

I was reasoning about my foregoing crushes, but they just clicked my mind and fade away. I was not that amazed because after all it was just an infatuation. As I was listening to music, I skipped my mind from all this and continued to see my playlist.

Suddenly, my mind tapped me and asked me a peculiar question "Why do we have a crush?". The question stucked me out made me curious to know the science behind having a crush, so I start digging the facts about why do we get attracted to someone.

Crush: The most adoring feeling one can have. People reading this out might have experience this feeling once.

Okay, before breaking out your curiosity behind it, let's see what happens when you start liking someone.

The feeling you feel:

  • You feel butterflies in your stomach whenever you see them.
  • You often start blushing whenever your friends tease you.
  • You might feel like you are actually going crazy.
  • You keep listening the same song again and again.
  • Your crush becomes your favorite topic.
  • You try to get their attention.
  • Stalking and finding out every single detail you could get (Thanks to facebook).

Science behind having a crush:

Our brains are made up of different parts, one of those parts is the limbic part of the brain. This part is responsible for addictions and such because this part of the brain craves dopamine.

What is dopamine?

Dopamine tends to get a bad wrap. Yes it technically what makes us addicted to drugs, tobacco, alcohol etc., but it is actually really important for us and we release this hormone/neurotransmitter throughout the day.

A crush happens in the limbic part of the brain– the same part which gets you addicted to drugs. That's why it is so hard to overcome a crush, as hard as overcoming a drugs addiction.

But, then you may ask the question: why does it happen?

The Limbic brain, which is the part we share with animals. It’s responsible for basic functions, like your heart beating and breathing in and out.

Getting attracted to a certain person:

In a crowd your eyes get stuck to a particular person. This is because the:

1- Smell- As per the research, the smell of the body make's wonder to your brain. Which makes you fall for him.

2- VoiceResearch has found that breathiness is seen as attractive in both males and females. Even if you don’t see a person, you can become strongly attracted to them from just their voice.

3- Genetic Match - Ever heard that married couples look alike? This common joke might have a basis in truth. We’re drawn to things that are familiar to us, because they make us feel more comfortable.

There are numerous factors that shows why we develop attraction to some people and not others.
